This information applies to the first-generation Defenders only. For information about the Defender Pro, please reference the product page here.
PolarPro Defenders are designed to grip the barrel of your lens in order to remain securely in place and protect the lens (and filter) glass. To select the appropriate Defender for your lens, start by determining the outer barrel diameter of the lens. This information is typically available in the user guide for the lens, as well as on the manufacturer's website page for the lens. Then, reference the following sizing chart:
What If My Lens Has A Hood?
We generally recommend against the use of a Defender with a lens hood. Hoods (especially the tulip-style models) often have a shape which prevents the Defender from fitting properly or remaining securely in place. The Defenders were designed to grip the outside of the lens barrel, and use the friction that grip creates to stay in place. If a hood is in use, the Defender would end up being more cosmetic than protective.
