Where can I download the CineBlack Presets?
The presets can be downloaded from this link here.
General FAQs
Do the 49mm CineBlack filters work with the MagFlip Hood?
Yes! The 49mm CineBlack filters are fully compatible with the MagFlip Hood.
How do I use the CineBlack Presets?
The presets can be applied using a number of different editing programs. For more detailed info, check out the user guide here! The installation process is the same as it is for the CineGold presets in that article.
Do I have to use the CineBlack Presets, or can I just use the filters by themselves?
The presets are fully optional, so there's no requirement to use them. The filters will still provide great results natively. The presets are additional artistic tools, to help further emulate the Kodak film look that the filters are designed to evoke.
What is the diffusion strength of the CineBlack filters?
All of the CineBlack filters have a diffusion strength of 1/2.
How does Gold Mist differ from Black Mist?
Gold Mist blooms highlights a warmer color as well as some mids and shadows, where the Black Mist blooms highlights neutrally without effecting shadows. There's a video here with more detailed info.
How are the CineBlack filters different from the Shortstache Mist-PL 1/2 filters?
The black mist aspect is the same, but the Shortstache Mist-PL 1/2 filters are also polarizers, so they'll inherently have a stop value of ~1.3. The CineBlack filters are 0-stop models, so they'll let a bit more light pass through.
Can I stack other filters on top of the CineBlack models?
Yes! The threaded CineBlack filters all offer front threads, and will accept other threaded filters on top. The Helix CineBlack filter can be stacked with any other Helix filter model. The 4x5 model is stackable with other 4x5 filters as long as your matte box offers enough slots.
