If the Clamp Screw in the BaseCamp Core becomes damaged due to an accident or impact, it can be replaced using the steps outlined in this article.
What's Needed
- Replacement Clamp Screw & Hex Screw
- 1.5mm Hex Key OR Needle-Nose Pliers
Step 1:
Ensure there is no Thread Plate or Clamp Ring in the BaseCamp Core. Tighten the damaged Clamp Screw all the way down (or as much as possible). The black-headed Hex Screw should be visible at the end of the silver threading for the Clamp Screw.
Step 2:
Using either a 1.5mm hex key or a set of needle-nose pliers, grab and hold the Hex Screw in place. Using your other hand, grab the bronze knob at the end of the Clamp Screw and begin loosening it. The black-headed Hex Screw should come out of the Clamp Screw once loosened enough, after which the Clamp Screw can be threaded all of the way out of the BaseCamp Core. Put the old parts aside.
Step 3:
Using the same procedure as in Step 2, remove the black-headed Hex Screw from the new Clamp Screw. Then, thread the new bronze-headed Clamp Screw into the BaseCamp Core. Pinch the two sections of the clamp together to help the screw catch the threading more easily.
Step 4:
Once the Clamp Screw is threaded through both sections of the clamp, insert the black-headed Hex Screw into the threaded end of the Clamp Screw and tighten it into place. It is easier to hold the Hex Screw and turn the Clamp Screw, than it is the other way around. The Hex Screw is fully in place when no more of its black threading is visible - only the head should remain.
The BaseCamp is now fixed and the clamping mechanism should work normally again.
